CT River, Essex, CT

November 30, 2011

This image was stitched together from three overlapping compositions on color film.   It’s the time on the river after the boats are gone, and before the eagles make their return for the winter.

These two vehicles moving in tandem across the field make quick work of standing rows of corn.  The chopped corn will typically be placed in a silo, where it will ferment and eventually be fed to livestock.

It’ll probably be awhile before I make it out to the Plains states, if I ever do, but this gets me in the spirit.  The man here was planting the field by hand, seeds in a bag at his waist.

A portrait of John, the aforementioned gardener, in two different styles.  Just couldn’t make up my mind about which way to go, so I’m leaving it up to him and his friends on Facebook to decide.  Update:  he and his friends liked this one.  I’ll leave the other one, in part because there’s clearly a different feel between them, and when taken together, show the possibilities in digital post processing.

See post below.  I thought that image was the embodiment of simplicity, until this scene came along.  It works best for me, though, pushed to its photographic limit, as above.

Late winter, out in the middle of a mountain pond, temperature hovering at freezing but no wind, dressed warmly, hanging out with friends – the allure of ice fishing.
