Taken out in our backyard in Ivoryton, when the small forest of blue spruce trees I planted some ten years previous had grown to an average height of seven-eight feet. Now they’re probably triple that size.
*Here’s a nice version of the Christmas carol, also known as O Tannenbaum; it’s based on an old German folk song.
There’s been many a cover of Pete Seeger’s classic 1955 song, “Where Have All the Flowers Gone”- a call for peace that’s been recorded in over 30 languages – but perhaps the finest was the first, by the Kingston Trio here. Then of course a version by the man himself here, from a 1968 concert in Sweden.
At this time of the year, the town green in Ivoryton becomes, in the words of one local wag, “kinda like Las Vegas” (400,000 lights!!! the state’s largest living Christmas tree!!! etc. etc.) Here’s hoping they toned down the flashing lights this time around, but in any case, it’s magical and worth a trip.
